The History Behind E-Z-GO® Golf Carts

One of the best and most well-known brands of golf cart here in the United States is E-Z-GO®, which has been manufacturing many different varieties of golf cart for almost 70 years. Not only can you use their carts for zipping around the course, but you can also use them as quick and convenient transportation in neighborhoods and on campuses. The company even builds more rugged models that are perfect for off-roading.

Here’s a quick history of E-Z-GO so you can understand the company behind the carts.

In the Beginning

E-Z-GO® was founded in 1954 in Augusta, Georgia, by a pair of brothers, Beverley and Billy Dolan. The Dolan brothers maintained a machine shop and began their golf cart enterprise there, building electric golf carts to make the game more enjoyable for fellow players. The company grew very quickly as people all around the region sought out the comfortable and convenient electric E-Z-GO models.

In 1960, powersports titan Textron, Inc. bought E-Z-GO and continued the brand with their focus on making more environmentally responsible golf carts that didn’t produce emissions. Electric golf carts by their nature produce zero emissions, so E-Z-GO’s electric models fit well into the Textron ethos. The brand is manufactured in Augusta to this day, under their parent company’s Textron Specialized Vehicle division.

Models

E-Z-GO produces three main families of golf carts, each one tailored to specific uses. The company produces both gas and electric models to suit personal preferences, and their carts are extremely versatile.

The Express® family is perfect for personal transportation needs, offering you the easy handling and superior comfort you crave. Cruise around your neighborhood or head to the golf course in one of these models. Up to five passengers can fit on these golf carts, so you can bring your friends or family along for the ride.
